Our energy audits help your organization identify and plan for the implementation of energy and decarbonization opportunities across its facilities. Although organizations often have a sense of where improvements are needed, a professional set of eyes and fresh perspective can uncover new opportunities to reduce energy use, energy cost, and carbon emissions. We will quantify the potential savings, costs, and return on investment for each opportunity so that your organization can confidently move forward with implementation.

With more than 30 years of experience conducting energy audits across Western Canada, Prism is intimately familiar with building systems (heating, ventilation, and cooling), building control systems, as well as building envelope, lighting, and renewable energy systems. Considerations for electrical distribution upgrades that may be required for low-carbon electrification (LCE) measures are also included in our audits, as well as demand response (DR) and distributed generation.

Our Services

Our energy audit offerings range from high-level opportunity assessments, walkthrough audits, detailed energy audits with “investment grade” analysis, and deep energy and carbon retrofit studies.

Our Approach

The following diagram outlines Prism’s 6-step approach for energy and decarbonization audits. We strongly believe in the philosophy of “Reduce, Avoid, and Replace”, which we apply across all of our studies.

Our Process
  1. Meet with the client team to understand the project’s needs and current challenges.
  2. Collect and analyze site data.
  3. Spend time on site, working closely with onsite personnel.
  4. Review building control system (if applicable).
  5. Build an inventory of mechanical and electrical equipment, and an understanding of their operation.
  6. Identify technically feasible energy and carbon reduction opportunities.
  7. Develop concept designs for each opportunity.
  8. Evaluate the potential energy and carbon emission savings, costs, and ROI for each opportunity.
  9. Coordinate utility and government incentive applications.
  10. Prepare an energy audit report, which summarizes the opportunities, financials, and recommended next steps for implementation.
