Mechanical Engineering Technologist (Building Energy Systems)

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to work with our Energy Team.  The ideal candidate will have a technical background with knowledge of HVAC systems and building control systems. You should be familiar with building energy and utilities analysis (MT&R).  The ideal candidate will have an interest and experience in energy efficiency and sustainability.


  • Carry out energy data analysis including energy histories review and regression analysis, baseline and CUSUM analysis, system specific energy modeling and building energy modeling
  • Gather operational and functional performance data to assess equipment operation and identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement
  • Assist others and conduct energy audits, analysis and evaluations of energy savings in the area of existing commercial, institutional and industrial building mechanical and electrical systems
  • Assist in the review of DDC controls sequences, review and evaluate program code from various DDC system manufacturers and identify opportunities for control optimization
  • Assist in the design of HVAC and controls upgrades for energy retrofits
  • Conduct preliminary and detailed cost estimates for energy upgrades
  • Provide support for the preparation of tender packages for procurement of equipment, installation and commissioning of upgrades and site reviews of installations
  • Research industry technologies and applications
  • Research, develop, assemble training and educational materials for energy management
  • Support project management of company projects, including project planning, proposals, scheduling, project supervision, technical content and review, client liaison, invoicing and profitability
  • Assist in marketing of services and issuing proposals
  • Take part in the improvement of Prism products and services

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum two years technologist diploma preferably with BCIT SEMAC,Certified Energy Manager designation or similar
  • Experience in the Energy Management Engineering field, analyzing and conducting energy management related studies and projects is an asset
  • Experience in determining energy savings opportunities, energy savings calculations, computer simulations, building automation, and energy monitoring and tracking is an asset
  • Ability to communicate and interact well with clients, building users, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner
  • Familiarity with BC and Vancouver Building Codes, Canadian Electrical Code, ASHRAE, and other applicable codes and standards
  • Computer literacy including proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Business and report writing skills
  • Knowledge of marketing and sales management philosophy
