Harmonic Facts for Electronic Ballasts

Contrary to some perceptions in the marketplace, the use of electronic ballasts results in less harmonics generated based on the power draw of the ballast and lamp combination. On a power reduction from 81 watts for 2-34 watt T12 lamps to 59 watts for 2-32 watt T8 lamps, the result will be a reduction in harmonics. In this case, the harmonics level will be 75% or less than the original installation. When retrofitting from 4 lamps to 2, the resultant harmonics is further reduced and may result in harmonics being 30% or less than the original system.
