Energy Management Engineer (Controls Specialist)

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to undertake Energy Management Engineering with a focus on building control optimization. You should have an engineering background with strong knowledge of HVAC systems, building controls systems (DDC), recommissioning, and utilities. Your assets include strong communication skills, team and organizational experience, technical strengths in building systems, and the ability to provide excellent client service.

Responsibilities include:

  1. design control systems for building HVAC and lighting systems, including the development and implementation of sequence of operations to achieve energy efficient building operations
  2. conduct rigorous and comprehensive on-site investigations and analyses of the building operations seeking to identify deficiencies and opportunities for optimization in the operation of the building energy consuming systems and related controls
  3. gather operational and functional performance data to assess equipment operation and identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement
  4. use engineering calculations or simulation models to estimate the potential energy and demand impacts of implementing identified controls measures
  5. carry out field measurements and electrical monitoring
  6. conduct preliminary and detailed cost estimating for controls system upgrades and replacement
  7. prepare specifications and tender packages for procurement and installation of controls equipment
  8. review trend data and on-site performance to ensure compliance with design
  9. coordinate and review progress of work assignments, and prepare progress reports
  10. manage company projects, including project planning, proposals, scheduling, delegation of responsibilities, project supervision, technical content and review, client liaison, invoicing and profitability
  11. assist management on marketing of services and issuing proposals
  12. take part in the improvement of Prism products and services

Qualifications:

  • BSc degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Design Engineering
  • licensed P.Eng. - registered or eligible for registration with APEGBC
  • minimum of 5 years experience in the Energy Management Engineering or Building System field
  • strong expertise in control systems, building automation, and retrocommissioning and optimizing control strategies for energy savings
  • ability to work with clients, building users, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner
  • comprehensive knowledge of the BC and Vancouver Building Codes, Canadian Electrical Code, ASHRAE, and other applicable codes and standards
  • computer literacy including proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Access
  • proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • business and report writing skills
  • knowledge of marketing and sales management philosophy
  • excellent problem-solving skills
