Intermediate Electrical Designer

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to undertake Intermediate Electrical Engineering. You should have an engineering background with strong knowledge of lighting systems, building control systems, recommissioning, energy and utilities. Your assets include strong communication skills, team and organizational experience, technical strengths in building systems, ability to provide excellent client service and a commitment to sustainable design.

In this role, you will be working closely with our project design team. Electrical design will include power distribution, lighting (indoor and outdoor), controls, fire alarm, voice/data communications and security/CCTV systems. You will also have responsibility for interfacing with clients and contractors, preparing tender documentation and specifications, conducting construction review and assisting with supervision of the project team as required. Experience in energy management is an asset.

Responsibilities include:

1. conduct engineering evaluations, analysis, designs and implementation in the area of lighting and electrical systems
2. prepare tender packages for procurement of equipment and installation
3. review shop drawings
4. verify construction is proceeding in accordance with design specifications
5. track and forecast project costs
6. complete field reviews during construction and prepare field review reports
7. provide technical support to resolve problems, clarify issues and ensure timeliness of project completion
8. interface with the client, building owner, architect, contractors, consultants, utilities, and building authorities
9. manage company projects, including project planning, scheduling, delegation of responsibilities, project supervision, technical content and review, client liaison, invoicing and profitability
10. coordinate engineering deliverables with contractors and subcontractors
11. improve and keep the master electrical specifications and details up to date
12. take part in the improvement of Prism products and services relative to power, and electrical and lighting services
13. improve project management tools to increase company efficiency
14. assist management on marketing of power, electrical and lighting services

Qualifications:

• 5 years experience in consulting engineering in the commercial, institutional, or light industrial building sectors
• comprehensive knowledge of the BC and Vancouver Building Codes, Canadian Electrical Code, ASHRAE, and other applicable codes and standards
• computer literacy including proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook
• working knowledge of AutoCAD
• proficient verbal and written communication skills
• business and report writing skills
• working knowledge of load, voltage drop, fault and lighting calculations
• working knowledge of protection and coordination study and design issues
• practical design experience
• ability to work with clients, building users, consulting engineers, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner
• knowledge of marketing and sales management philosophy
