One of the most recognizable landmarks in Vancouver, Science
World is a multi-use facility that contains galleries of
hundreds of interactive exhibits and theatres. The Geodesic
dome, with an area of 33,530 square feet, is 155 feet tall
and covered with 391 lights that shine 24 hours a day, 365
days a year. This structure was built for one-time use (Expo
86) and for a one-time cost, with no focus on energy efficiency.
As a model for science and sustainability, Science World
needed to upgrade the building systems for its on-going
operation.
